Participatory Community Assessment of Disaster Risk (PACDR) Report

Participatory Community Assessment of Disaster Risk (PACDR) that took place in Songambele village. The assessment was conducted in collaboration with the community to identify the effects and disasters caused by climate change and to develop participatory strategies for the community to address them.

The exercise was divided into two major parts:

• Part 1: Understanding disasters emanating from climate change – The community identified the main disasters as drought, heavy winds, and floods. They also identified specific impacts and developed adaptation strategies to deal with them.
• Part 2: Preparing a workplan to deal with impacts of climate change – Participants created a workplan that outlined the actions the community could take and the support needed from other stakeholders.

The final workplan was presented to the village executive committee and, after discussion, was incorporated into the village government’s plan to be shared with the wider community and other stakeholders.
